TSD 2008 - How to reach Brno

Brno can be reached easily by direct flights from Prague, London and Munich and by buses/trains from Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest, or by plane to Vienna and then by coach or train (130 km). Another possibility is to go by plane to Prague and then travel about 200 km by coach or train.

By Plane

There is a small international airport Turany in Brno with flights from London/Stansted, Prague, Girona in Spain and Moscow/Vnukovo. Other nearest international airports are Schwechat in Vienna (130km) and Ruzyne in Prague (200km). There are good bus/train connections to Brno from there, some airlines even offer direct bus transport to Brno from the airport. Ask your travel agent for this option when buying your plane ticket.

There are generally four convenient ways of travelling from the Prague airport to Brno:

  1. The Czech airlines have a few airplane flights to Brno-Turany Airport (BRQ) and some more connections with direct microbuses from Airport Prague-Ruzyne to Brno (destination Brno, Bus Service (ZDN)). You can see the exact timetable of both at Czech Airlines pages (the buses are also denoted as flights). Reservation in advance (also for your departure) is strongly recommended.
  2. Another easy (and cheap) bus connection from Ruzyne to Brno is the one with StudentAgency buses - you can find the timetable at IDOS pages (enter From: Ruzyne, To: Brno and select direct). Note that you must change buses at the bus station Florenc in Prague but you buy only one ticket for the whole trip at the airport.
  3. Prague Airport "Ruzyne" -> Prague Main Train Station "Hlavni Nadrazi"
From Prague Ruzyne airport you can go also to the main train station in the center of the city. Find the timetable in the Prague public transport system:
From: letiste (in Czech it means "airport")
To: hlavni nadrazi (in Czech it means "main (train) station")

By Train

Brno can be reached easily by direct EC trains from Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. You may find some train connections which may suit you best at the IDOS pages

By Car

Brno is located in the southwest part of the Czech Republic, on the backbone motorway D-1 Prague-Brno-Bratislava, and the rail-road line Prague-Brno-Vienna.

The nearest international airports are Vienna (recommended) and Prague. Brno is about 120 minutes drive from Vienna or 150 minutes drive from Prague. Use exit 190 when leaving motorway from Prague.

You can find your way to the Conference location on the Google map of the conference location.
